Irrigation Australia Rainwater Harvesting Committee

Michael Smit is the Technical and Sustainability Manager at Kingspan Environmental and previously the Executive of the Rainwater Harvesting Association of Australia. Michael has a science background and previously worked in water conservation, natural resource management, and strategic and statutory land use planning. Michael believes Cities are integrated environmental, social and economic systems and all our actions should improve how urban systems perform. Michael has a Honors degree in urban planning and qualifications in economics, urban design, urban horticulture and philosophy.

Abstract Outline: Rainwater Harvesting is an iconic element of Australia’s history. Rainwater Harvesting continues to play a major role in Australia’s urban and rural areas. The presentation describes the evidence for widespread rainwater harvesting in Australia, understanding rainwater harvesting as a system, health research and the future of rainwater harvesting in integrated water management.
