Rabi Maskey is a Senior Irrigation Officer with Agriculture Victoria located in Tatura in Northern Victoria. Rabi has been working as an extension officer in the area of irrigation and drainage technology by assisting irrigators to improve water use efficiency on farm. He was recently involved in developing a series of benefit-cost case studies focusing on different irrigation infrastructure technologies adopted by farmers in northern Victoria. These studies focused on understanding the benefits and impact of irrigation infrastructure investment on farm profitability.

He is interested in exploring the possibilities of linking research results to extension activities. He has:

• More than 15years of experience with the Department in assisting irrigators to improve water use efficiency on farm.

• Experienced in developing irrigation related information packages on surface and pressurised irrigation systems.

• Experienced in Whole Farm Planning related activities including, extension, catchments programs, surveying, irrigation hydrology, soil and water interactions.

Abstract Outline: This presentation will provide an overview of the results of land use mapping and irrigator interviews undertaken in the GMID in 2015/16, through a committee of partnering State, dairy, water, land valuation and dairy organisations. It will provide data on the current land use context; and changing water use; and in doing so, highlight the issues and challenges of a dynamic land and water use operating environment in the GMID.
