Abstract Outline: Southern Rural Water (SRW) received funding from the National Water Infrastructure Development Fund to conduct a feasibility assessment on the potential expansion of irrigation in the Central Gippsland area.

The first phase of the study included an assessment of the surface water and groundwater resources available and compared these with land capability (including soils, topography, climate, existing land use and holding size) within
the region to identify potential expansion opportunities. Four focus areas were then selected to investigate in further detail.

The second phase of the study includes a demand study, concept design, impact assessments and economic review.
Over the next few months, the study outcomes will be consolidated & workshopped with stakeholders. The study is expected to be complete in March 2018.
