Abstract Outline: The Australian professional plant nursery industry has found that the largest gains from improved irrigation are not in water savings (thought that is real as well) but in improvements in product quality, consistency, and productivity gains. The flow on effects to labour efficiency and waste reduction are also significant.

This presentation will explain these benefits and argue that Australia’s irrigated agriculture and horticulture industries need to look beyond just water saving through efficiency, and focus more on the real business of productivity improvement.
