Chris is a sustainability communications professional with a passion for water efficiency and a proven track record of promoting sustainable water use at a local, national and international level. He has a detailed knowledge of the global water sector, having worked previously as Communications Director at Waterwise in the UK and Sydney Water.

Abstract Outline:  Smart Approved WaterMark is Australia’s water certification label which aims to help people choose water-saving products and services. In addition, we work closely with councils and water utilities to help them provide water saving product and advice to their residents on how to save water in the home and garden.

This presentation will focus on the need for water efficiency even during times of no drought. In particular:

– It looks at why it is important to save water at home in terms of the environmental context and why it will become even more important to save water in the future.
– It reveals social research on what motivates people to use water wisely.
– It details what Smart WaterMark is doing to help reduce water use in Australia.

About Smart Approved WaterMark

Smart Approved WaterMark is a not-for-profit, voluntary scheme. Applications are assessed by an independent expert panel with expertise across all sectors. Examples of certified products include: trigger nozzles; tap timers, rain sensors, mulches, soil amendment products, waterless car washes, swimming pool covers. Examples of services include: retrofit services, water efficient design services, education and training programs, and information advisory services.
Smart Approved WaterMark also delivers the Smart Water Advice program for councils and water utilities, designed to help them provide water saving advice directly to their residents.
